Like countless creatives, I am drawn to the Southern California desert landscape and its natural elements—heat’s weight, expansive stillness, shadows pouring over rock, all so dissimilar to my native New England. The desert wind informs this work.
I admire the stewardship of preserving these venerable yet vulnerable trees through planting and recent legislation. The Joshua Tree—its conditions for blooming, its multi-directional growth, its solitary nature with traveling roots seems emblematic of my quarter century residence in Southern California.
